More than 200 well-wishers joined Explore White Bear members in honoring Pat and Carol McFarlane Sept. 22 at the White Bear Country Inn.
Tours of the newly-
renovated hotel were given before guests gathered in the banquet room for a buffet dinner prepared by Rudy's Redeye Grill.
Explore White Bear is the nonprofit White Bear-based tourism bureau that sponsored the award. This was the first "Spirit of Tourism" award the organization has given to anyone.
Mayor Paul Auger was Master of Ceremony during the event, praising the McFarlanes for their public service and dedication to the community.
"I know why I'm here," said Pat McFarlane, with a laugh. "It's because I am Carol McFarlane's husband."
Pat and Carol McFarlane were chosen as recipients of the award "in appreciation of their outstanding leadership, commitment, and passion in promoting community events and tourism in the White Bear Lake Area."
The couple own and operate Venburg Tire on Hwy. 61 in Maplewood.
As this goes to press, Carol McFarlane is seeking office as a White Bear Lake Area School Board Member. She was appointed in 2000 and, one year later, was elected to a four-year term on the school board.
Other community activities she's been involved in are serving as a board member of White Bear Lake Area Educational Foundation; past president and board member of Northeast Metro 916 Education Foundation; president of the White Bear Lake Alumni Association, advisor for White Bear Area Chamber of Commerce, and member of MICAH-North East Chapter.
